Perennial woodland native of North America having a red root and red sap and bearing a solitary lobed leaf and white flower in early spring and having acrid emetic properties; rootstock used as a stimulant and expectorant. Synonyms: puccoon, redroot, Sanguinaria canadensis, tetterwort.
