A group of illnesses caused by a viral infection (usually restricted to a specific geographic area); fever and gastrointestinal symptoms are followed by capillary hemorrhage. Synonyms: hemorrhagic fever, VHF, viral haemorrhagic fever, viral hemorrhagic fever.
