Peepul tree, peepul  n.  (Written also pippul tree, and pipal tree)  (Bot.) A sacred tree (Ficus religiosa) of the Buddhists, a kind of fig tree which attains great size and venerable age; it lacks the prop roots of the banyan. See Bo tree.
